Dental Cleanings

Give your furry friend a healthy and happy smile!

Oral health problems don’t just cause stinky breath and discolored teeth in dogs and cats.

They can also cause a lifetime of discomfort, pain, difficulty eating, infections, and more. Untreated periodontal disease is an all-too-common problem, but fortunately, it’s one you can avoid. At SimpleVet Pet Hospital, we provide pet dental cleanings in Little Elm and are here to give your furry friend a healthy, happy smile.

What to Expect

Your pet’s dental cleaning will be performed while they are under general anesthesia. This ensures their safety and comfort while enabling our team to provide comprehensive dental care. All cleanings include a thorough oral exam, teeth cleaning, and polishing to remove plaque and tartar. We start by carefully examining the mouth, making note of any abnormalities in the teeth or gums. Next, we perform tooth scaling to remove plaque and tartar both above and below the gum line. Finally, we polish the teeth to remove scratches and prevent plaque build-up.

Your pet’s cleaning may include several other things, such as:
  • Probing of tooth sockets to assess dental disease
  • Dental radiographs to assess problems lurking below the gum line
  • Fluoride or dental sealant application
  • Repair or removal of infected or fractured teeth
  • Dental charting
  • Examination of the tongue, lips, and entire mouth to search for growths, wounds, or other problems.

Do Pets Need Tests Before Teeth Cleaning?

Yes! We require certain tests prior to placing patients under anesthesia. Doing blood work lets us check for health problems that could put your pet’s safety at risk during surgery

Will My Pet Be Okay After Having Their Teeth Cleaning?

Complications are extremely rare, and most pets recover from teeth cleaning procedures with ease. They almost always return home the same day. Your furry friend may be a bit sleepy from the anesthesia. They may also experience some minor discomfort and soreness. We may send your pet home with pain medications or antibiotics. In these cases, we’ll provide detailed aftercare instructions to help you ensure an easy recovery for your pet.
